Our Work

As the oldest charitable organization in Cherokee County, our legacy and mission has remained the same since 1935 – helping local children in need. Our Service League fiscal year begins first of May and runs through the end of April. During this time, we receive hundreds of requests for basic needs for children from school counselors, county social workers, churches, social services, teachers, and individuals.

I am so grateful for your work to help this family.  They are so appreciative of your efforts.  I know mom was struggling and this will certainly alleviate that stress.

L. L., School Counselor

The Service League members spend a great deal time and effort in planning and executing fundraisers to raise the money needed to meet these requests. We do our best to assist with each request if it falls within the guidelines of our mission and does not exceed our annual budget.

Fundraising to provide children with housing, utilities, clothing, school supplies, medical exams/medicine, dental exams/dental care, eye exams/eyeglasses, Christmas gifts, scholarships, and much more is the heart of the Service League. We also assist with providing special services like lice treatment and pest control services to ensure a healthy living environment.

We have seen the tangible difference having these needs met can make in the life of a child. Having a bed, a backpack, electricity, or water has given children peace during their tragic circumstances. Being able to attend class without the pain of a toothache has provided relief. Seeing the board clearly without squinting has given many children a new outlook on life. Receiving a scholarship to attend college has given children a hope of their future. We are thankful to be a turning point in the lives of these children through our efforts, the donations of our patrons, and the support of our sponsors.

The Cherokee County Service League has been such a blessing for my family and me. A few years ago, I was in a chapter of my life where I had fallen on hard times. It was around the holidays and my finances were extremely tight. At the time, I knew that I wouldn’t be able to give my son Christmas…The Service League reached out to me and wanted to know how they could help. They went above and beyond to give my son Christmas. The look on his face Christmas morning was priceless.
